Tips on Chi Meditation

Total peace is said to be possible when full harmony is achieved between body, mind and spirit, which is the goal of chi meditation.  It is no wonder that many seek the fulfillment of this energy based form of consciousness; however, it takes a great deal of practice to become proficient at obtaining it.

Origination of Chi

Chi is an art form that was perfected by the Chinese thousands of years ago, and has retained its popularity throughout the years by some and embraced as a new science by many others.  By binding the life forces of body, mind and spirit, chi can be manifested in many different ways; energy, light, aura and others.  The Chinese believed that without the presence or development of chi, a person would weaken and become ill.  Only by connecting with and circulating chi throughout the body can an individual be truly healthy and at peace.  Therefore, the health of the body and mind are dependent upon the strength of an individual’s chi, making it essential to focus upon gaining the harmony.  This is done through meditation.

Meditation techniques

The ability to focus on one single thing, erasing any other thought from the mind, is called meditation.  Practicing meditation brings clarity of consciousness, develops concentration and sharpens awareness.  It is an excellent method of relieving stress and anxiety, and after the technique of slipping into a meditative state is perfected by an individual, it becomes easier and easier to achieve that level of consciousness whenever a stressful situation should occur.  In this way, the stressors become less prominent in life; making for a healthier individual in both mind and body.

There are a few helpful techniques to learn when beginning meditation.  First, choose a location that is free of distracting noises, sights and smells.  The temperature of the location should be one that will be comfortable for the individual without being too warm or too cool.  For some, a quiet room is ideal with soft, soothing music playing hypnotically in the background.  Others enjoy the openness and natural setting of the outdoors, with only the breeze and bird song providing a break from the quiet.  Once the perfect site is found, determining your stance will be required.  Many people associate meditation with the familiar yogi cross legged, seated position with hands resting on the knees, but this is not necessary.  It may be most comfortable to lie quietly in a hammock, or to lie back on a recliner.  The key is to find the position that puts the individual at ease.

Finding your chi

Ensconced in your own ideal location and position, the next step is concentration.  Choose a focal point upon which to concentrate.  It does not have to be a visual point; for example, it can be an emotion such as love or peace.  Do not allow your mind to divert or wander into subcategories such as things you love.  Concentrate solely on the focal point.  When all other thoughts have been banished, you are beginning meditation, or unbroken attention.  In this state, focusing only on the object you have chosen, full awareness of that object or subject will arrive; bringing greater understanding and appreciation.  Everything in life that relates to your subject will come flooding into your consciousness, which is the melding of chi.

Chi meditation takes practice, but offers a world of fulfillment and satisfaction to those who are able to master the techniques.  It can also lead to other activities that can bring even higher enjoyment and health to your mind and body, such as yoga.

Chi; the unity of your mind, body and spirit.  For those who seek it, this ancient Chinese art form could prove to be just the solution to achieve harmony, serenity and peace in their lives.
